Investigators ID Man in Accidental Death Outside Home in Amherst Co.

Update 5 p.m.:

Amherst Co., VA - Amherst County investigators say Fernando Rubio Soto died at a home Thursday night.

Sheriff Jimmy Ayers says the accident happened at a home on Thomas Road in Madison Heights around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The sheriff says Soto was changing the oil in a truck when the jack holding up the truck slipped and fell on Soto, pinning him underneath.

Deputies and EMS crews responded to the home. Soto however wasn't breathing and wouldn't respond to those emergency workers.

They tried to revive him, but it didn't work.

The sheriff's office does not suspect any foul play in this incident.


Amherst Co., VA - Deputies are investigating an accidental death in Amherst County. Investigators say Fernando Rubio Soto died at a home Thursday night.

They say eight emergency personnel were on the scene on Thomas Road in Madison Heights-- not far from River Road and the James River.

According to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office, Soto was underneath his vehicle changing the oil when the jack flipped, and the vehicle fell on him.

This happened about 7:30 p.m.
