Ice Knocks Out Power, Downs Trees for Some Sun. Night
Lynchburg, VA - Much of the ABC 13 Viewing Area is recovering from freezing rain and ice that fell in two parts Sunday.
The more intense area of freezing rain and ice started after sunset Sunday and continued for most of the night.
VDOT reports trees down throughout the area as of mid-morning Monday.
Appalachian Power reported that 7,772 customers were in the dark as of 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Temperatures hovered between 28 and 32 degrees for much of the night, so any rain that fell added to the accumulations.
Crews will spend much of the day clearing debris such as branches, trees, and lines.
Roads are generally wet, VDOT says. Many roads east of Bedford are listed as minor, meaning they have some patchy areas of snow and ice on them.
ABC 13 viewers report anywhere from a coating to 1/2" of ice overnight Sunday.
The ice will melt away during the day Monday as temperatures warm above freezing.
If you have a picture of a downed tree or the ice, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will use it on the web and on the air.
