Hurt Medical Center Building Again After Fire

Project manager using original foundation for new medical center.

Hurt, VA - Doctors broke ground on the new Pete Daniel Medical Center Tuesday. Crews will build the new center on the exact spot where the old one once stood.

The old medical center caught fire last July, burning to the ground. Patients had to move to a new location set up across the street. The July 14 fire caused no injuries, but took several crews to put out.

The sight was hard for many to watch.

"It was just sorrowful to see this open space where we were so comfortable coming to," said Gerry Caprario, patient.

The most noticeable difference at the new center will be on the outside. The plan is to make it brick.

The new facility's called Staunton River Family Physicians at the Pete Daniel Medical Center.
