Human Remains Found Identified As Missing Bassett Man

Bassett, VA - Human remains found in Franklin County on Thursday have now been identified as missing Bassett man, Ricky Eugene Dodson.

Dodson went missing in early October around the same time Vicky Purdy disappeared. Purdy's body was later found in a burned out car. Her case considered a homicide.
When ABC 13 spoke with Ricky's mother, Polly Dodson, the remains had not yet been identified. Dodson said it was a 'mother's intuition' telling her that Ricky's body had been found.
Polly Dodson says not a day goes by without her thinking about Ricky.

"It's horrible. And I had been just praying that they would find him," said Dodson.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says they found the remains Thursday in the Henry area of Franklin County have now been identified as Dodson.
"I just knew that God had answered my prayer and they had found him," said Dodson.
According to the Sheriff's Office, they discovered Dodson's body in a wooded area about a mile from where they found Purdy's remains. Investigators would not comment on the condition of Dodson's body, only saying it was not identifiable until sent to the medical examiner.
"Anytime we find someone in a wooded area,0 we consider it suspicious," said Lt. Phillip Young, Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
According to Dodson's family, Vicky and Ricky had been dating for years. The Sheriff's Office has not identified Dodson's cause of death and will not say if they see a connection to Purdy's homicide.
"I think somebody done something to him," said Dodson.
Polly says, as hard as this has been, she now has some closure and can think of her son in a different light.
"I'll think more about the good times instead of wondering what had happened," said Dodson.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says this case is still under investigation. If you have any information, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at (540) 344-8500.
