Blacksburg - Spring football practice began late Thursday afternoon at Virginia Tech, the first of 15 workouts culminating with the Spring Game Saturday afternoon, April 26th at 2. After breaking his leg in the regular season finale against Virginia, rising redshirt sophomore tailback Trey Edmunds is now out of a boot. He'll miss spring practice, but is expected back for the fall. Mark Leal opens spring as the number one quarterback ahead of sophomore Brenden Motley and freshman Andrew Ford. With Texas Tech transfer Michael Brewer not joining practice until the fall, spring is a big opportunity for Leal.Frank Beamer, HOKIES HEAD COACH, said "If your quarterback's not playing at a high level, you're probably gonna be average. So you know we're gonna make sure we've got a quarterback. And I think Leal, I've got confidence that he's gonna be better than what he played in that game. And I like the way he realized he didn't play well, he recognized it, he got right back and got into it."
