Hokies Elevate QB Motley to #1 on Depth Chart

Blacksburg - Virginia Tech's final scrimmage is this Saturday from 11 'til 1 before the annual Spring Game a week from Saturday. The scrimmage and spring game are open to the public at no charge.

After a strong scrimmage Saturday, the Hokies have elevated redshirt sophomore quarterback Brenden Motley of Christiansburg to first team on the depth chart, ahead of fifth-year senior Mark Leal. The competition is ongoing, though, and the Hokies still have Texas Tech transfer Michael Brewer and true freshman Chris Durkin arriving in the summer. Redshirt-senior flanker Willie Byrn is one of the leaders on offense. Byrn says one main focus this year, especially for the receivers, is more BIG PLAYS.

Willie Byrn, HOKIES R-SENIOR FLANKER, said "I think we did a good job of catching, you know, intermediate and short routes and making some things happen underneath. But we want some guys that can go up and make plays down the field. And we've got a few of them that are just waiting to bust out."
