Boones Mill, VA - Volunteers in Boones Mill spent Monday preparing the town's historic train depot for the move to its new site.
The light demolition represents one of the final preparations needed following two years of discussion, debate and fundraising for the 110-year-old building.
Representatives of the the moving company will travel to the area, from Greensboro, on Thursday to asses the route the building will take.
To prepare the volunteers removed the depot's skirting and loading dock - much of which cannot be salvaged.
"I knew it would get here. I thought it would be quicker but it's here. We are glad it's here," said town councilman, Mike Smith.
The depot will be moved about a quarter mile down the tracks from its current location.
Town officials plan to turn the building into a community center.
