Hillcats Falter Late To Keys, Lose 6-3.
Lynchburg, VA —
The weather has cooled a bit over the 4th of July holiday.
Unfortunately for Hillcats fans, so have the bats for Lynchburg.
After starting the second half of the season on a hot streak, the 'Cats have lost 5 out of their last 6. Lynchburg hosted the Keys at Calvin Falwell field, with an opportunity to win the weekend series against Frederick. After Kevin Ahrens opposite field home run made it 3-1 Hillcats, Frederick took over. A bases loaded double by the Keys' Michael Burgess knocked in three runs, giving Frederick a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The Hillcats spoiled a good effort from Lucas Sims. Sims goes 7 innings, striking out 6, but takes the loss. Sebastian Vader gets the win for Frederick, in his first Carolina League start, while Jesse Neal gets the save. Neal hasn't given up a run since making the move from the starting rotation in early May.
Lynchburg opens a three game series at home against Carolina on Monday evening, 7:05pm.
