Lynchburg - Wilmington erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning to break open a scoreless game and beat the Hillcats 7-2 in game one of a doubleheader at Calvin Falwell Field.
But the Hillcats came back to win the nightcap 3-2 and earn the doubleheader split.
Lynchburg starter Greg Ross pitched well in the nightcap, going five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six, he left with a 3-0 lead after five innings. Wilmington rallied in the sixth for two runs off Alex Wilson, but the Hillcats held on to win 3-2. Edison Sanchez, Daniel Castro and Jose Peraza had rbi hits for Lynchburg.
The split leaves the Hillcats at 8-and-5 on the season, Wilmington is now 6-and-7. The Hillcats and Blue Rocks play the third and final game of the series Thursday night at 6:05 in Lynchburg.
