Hillcats Blank Salem 5-0
Lynchburg - Jarett Miller tossed a career-high 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, striking out six as the Hillcats beat Salem 5-0 Thursday night at Calvin Falwell Field.
Miller took a no-hitter into the sixth inning when Salem's Carlos Asuaje broke up the gem with a leadoff single. Jose Martinez homered, drove in two runs and scored two to lead Lynchburg's offensive attack. The June free-agent signee went 2-for-4 and raised his average to .354 with 16 rbi's and 19 runs in just 32 games with the Hillcats.
The Hillcats broke up a scoreless game when they struck for four runs in the third. Daniel Carroll drove in the first run on a double to left. Eric Garcia knocked in Hyams with an RBI groundout to make it 2-0. Jose Martinez singled to plate Carroll, and Justin Bloxom capped off the rally with an RBI double to right field. Will Skinner singled in the frame but was stranded on base.
Lynchburg travels to Frederick for a three-game series versus the Keys, first game is 7 o'clock Friday night.
