Hillcats' Beckwith Demoted After DUI Arrest

LYNCHBURG - The Hillcats demoted first baseman William Beckwith to the Braves' Danville affiliate on May 21st. No reason was given as to why he was demoted but ABC 13 has learned that his demotion coincided with his arrest following an incident on May 16th at 2 a.m.

Beckwith, 23, was charged with driving under the influence at the 2100 block of Wards Road.

He was also issued a traffic summons for failure to obey a red traffic light.

In 41 games this season for Lynchburg, Beckwith is hitting .260 with 8 home runs, and 26 RBIs.

When asked when Beckwith is likely to return to the Hillcats' roster, a person with the Hillcats said "about a week" from when the organization demoted him. One week would be Tuesday May 28th. The Hillcats host Myrtle Beach that night at 6:05 p.m.
