He's Here! by Shelley Basinger

I've been blogging and bragging for several months now about my new role in life.{} But even though "Aunt Shelley" looked and sounded good, I had no idea the way my heart would swell when I saw my nephew lying there this weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tyler Andrew Basinger was born on July 2, weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce.{} His birth had good and bad timing for me. I'll start with the negative. July 2{}was a Monday. So that meant I had to wait a whole work week before I could head home to see him.{} Boo.{} {}{}

Now to the positive - Tyler was born the third morning I woke up without power. Somehow, after getting multiple text messages that my brother and sister-in-law were at the hospital, all of the frustration I had sort of faded away. {}Yeah, I was getting ready for work by flashlight, smelling the stench of a rotten fridge and preparing to head in for what was sure to be a hectic/crazy work day. But who cares?{} A new person, a miracle, was here.

Even though he's a normal size for a newborn baby, I still can't believe how little Tyler is.{} He sleeps with his tiny little hands up by his face. And sometimes, he likes to nap with his feet straight up in the air. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with my arm straight up in the air. Maybe he gets that from me.

So here's to not taking anything for granted. A power outage taught so many of us that in the past two weeks.{} I have a feeling little Tyler will continue to teach me that from here on out.
