Lynchburg, VA - The Heritage High School band has just been named a Commonwealth of Virginia Honor Band for the 10th time.
We listened in on the "Big Orange Marching Machine" rehearsing Monday. The Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association picked Heritage. To claim the title, the band had to earn superior marks in both the marching band and the concert categories - and they did! Now, students are soaking it in.
"One of the best things that Heritage is known for is the band, so if they haven't heard of us, this should gain our credibility," said Jaime Palacios, band member.
"It makes me personally want to put on a great spring concert," said Avery Reed, band member.
Upcoming "Big Orange Marching Machine" events:
May 4: Jazz band dinner fundraiser, 7 p.m.
May 23: Year-end concert for jazz, percussion and symphonic bands, 7 p.m. at HHS
May 1: Deadline to enter golf tournament fundraiser. It benefits the HHS Band Boosters. If interested, email HeritageHSBandBoosters@gmail.com
