Hefflinger Homers, Hillcats Edge Blue Rocks 3-2

Lynchburg - Robby Hefflinger ripped his 21st homer of the season and the Hillcats held off a late Wilmington rally to snap their three-game losing skid, beating the Blue Rocks 3-2.

Wilmington starter Kyle Smith took a 1-0 lead and no-hitter into the fourth, but Matt Lipka broke it up with a pretty bunt single down the third base line. Still in the fourth, two outs, Kyle Kubitza's chopper to first is bobbled and deflected into foul territory, Lipka scores all the way from second to tie the game at one.

A.J. Holland had a strong night on the mound, pitching into the 8th, allowing just two runs and striking out 6 to pick up his first win in over a month. Tie game at 1 in the sixth, Hefflinger crushed one to left to give the Hillcats their first lead of the night at 2-1. Lynchburg added another in the seventh when David Rohm led off with a double and later scored on an Elmer Reyes sac fly. The Blue Rocks rallied for one in the 8th and threatened to take the lead, but the Hillcats held on to win. Game three of the four-game series is Wednesday night, 7:05 at Lynchburg City Stadium.
