Bedford, VA - Work is underway on the "Harmony in Bedford" development on Bedford's west side.
The site along Route 460 is being graded and roads are going in. The development will be a combination of places to live, eat, and shop. Buildings could start going up this summer.
"We are talking to two different grocers. We are hoping to secure a grocer as an anchor," said George Aznavorian, the developer. "We are also talking to some home improvement companies on a scale that size. And then we are talking to two different restaurants. And we're also interested in a pharmacy."
VDOT says as of now the developer only has a right in, right out approved. That means from 460 the development can only be accessed from the east bound lanes. The developer eventually hopes to arrange for a full crossover to the west bound lanes. VDOT says that would require the closing of the nearby crossover at Woodhaven Drive.
Construction is already underway on the Army Reserve center next door. That facility will bring hundreds of soldiers to Bedford for training.
