Halifax County Middle School Mourns the Loss of Special Teacher
Halifax Co., VA - Halifax County Middle School is saying goodbye to one of their favorite teachers who recently passed away. When science teacher Kim Bosiger was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, her family kept a positive attitude.
"It was difficult, but you always think everything is going to be okay, " said her husband Wes Bosiger, but when her health took a turn, they say her concern wasn't for herself.
It was for her kids - a 13-year-old son and the kids in her classroom.
"She really enjoyed being a teacher, and I think that the kids appreciated it, " her husband said.
Throughout Bosiger's battle, students and staff were there to offer support - through phone calls, texts and visits. They made t-shirts and bracelets. Just this week, they presented a flag to Bosiger's family that will be flown at the school in honor of the former Teacher of the Year.
"Kim had a big laugh. Kim had a bubbly personality, " said fellow teacher Lori Cole.
Cole was a colleague, but also a friend for more than 20 years. She says school won't be the same without her.
"She was happy to be here, she loved the children, she loved her job, " Cole said, but for the loved ones she left behind, it brings some comfort to know she touched the lives of so many doing what she loved.
"It's amazing that they did all this. It really has touched us. Words can't describe how it's made us feel and I know she would be so proud, " said her mother, Helen Fallen.
There's currently a scholarship in the works in Bosiger's honor. The school is hoping to raise $5,000 to go to an eighth grade student who loves science just as much as she did.
