Halifax Co., VA - It's been five years since a Halifax County woman went missing and there are still no answers as to why. 49 year old Hattie Brown was last seen with her nephew at the Sheetz in South Boston on May 16, 2009. Hattie Brown was the youngest of three sisters. We spoke with one of them Friday and she says it's still hard to deal with the loss. She says five years ago they were alarmed when Hattie didn't show up to a bridal shower. When she wasn't at church the next day, they knew something was wrong. She says it's as if her sister just vanished into thin air. Investigators recovered Brown's car a couple of months after she disappeared. They say it had been set on fire and was at a remote farm in Virgilina. Several search dives in the Hyco River were unsuccessful. Brown's sister says it's been tough but they couldn't have gotten this far without the prayers and support from the community. She says the public could help bring her sister home. "It's heart-breaking there's nothing we can do about it at this particular time but continue to ask for prayer from the community and our friends," said Preteasta Barksdale who is Brown's sister. If you have any information about the disappearance of Hattie Brown, contact police immediately.
