Habitat for Humanity Kicks Off 'Blitz Build' in Altavista

Altavista, VA - The sprinkling rain didn't stop volunteers from building homes Saturday. The Altavista Area/Campbell County Habitat for Humanity kicked off their two-day Blitz Build to build two new houses in Altavista.

Volunteers started around 7:30 a.m. with just the foundation. Six hours later, they already had all of the walls, trusses and windows up. So then - they started working on the roof.

In total, 160 people registered to help build Saturday and about 100 more are expected to come out Sunday.

"We're just so thankful for all the volunteers really. We have so many groups that have come out--young people, churches, high schools, thank you to all the volunteers, we couldn't do it without them," said )Jenny Trevey, the executive director of the Altavista Campbell County Habitat for Humanity.

Our Claudia Rupcich will be back to the site Sunday to see the progress on the homes and introduce you to some of the new homeowners.
