Lynchburg, VA - Several women in our area will be able to get free mammograms thanks to a local organization.
The "Mammograms Annually A Must" luncheon raised more than $10,000 for the procedures.
The Centra Foundation also uses this as an opportunity to talk about the importance of early detection, and offer information on local support.
Famed author Nikki Giovanni spoke candidly about her own journey with lung cancer and encouraged those fighting cancer to change how they look at the disease.
"I dislike the language of cancer because we always talk about battling with cancer or struggling against, but what you're trying to do is live with it. Cancer is like a rude neighbor...." said Nikki Giovanni, an author.
This is the 10th year of the M.A.A.M Luncheon.
