Gleaning for the World Helping Churches Dealing With Border Crisis

Concord, VA- A well-known conservative activist is getting criticism, even death threats from his own followers this week. Glenn Beck announced Tuesday that his organization, Mercury One, will be sending supplies to tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants in Texas. His reasoning: they're children, and they should be helped no matter what.

Gleaning for the World is working with Mercury One to send supplies. Gleaning's president, Rev. Ron Davidson, has the same views as Beck. He says these children are caught in the middle of a political battle, and shouldn't be punished for it.

And, according to Davidson, most of Gleaning's donors agree. The charity sent out a questionnaire to donors yesterday asking if Gleaning should send supplies to Texas churches helping the minors who have come across the U.S. border illegally. Davidson says 80% of those who responded said absolutely, yes.

"These children have to have the same thing as our children. They've got to have some security, they've got to have some food, they've got to have water, they've got to have a place to sleep at night. They've got to have somebody just caring about them. And the churches that are willing to do that, we're going to help them," said Davidson.

Davidson says they're hoping to get the first truck load out either Thursday night or Friday morning with supplies like stuffed animals, blankets, MRE's and nutrient-rich drinks.
