Lynchburg, VA - Music is the universal healer and it's being used to help soldiers returning from war. Songwriting with soldiers is a nonprofit organization that helps soldiers heal through sharing their stories in song.Friday night at the American Legion in Lynchburg, the organization held a fundraiser. Its founder, Darden Smith, a songwriter himself performed.Folks got to enjoy dinner and some entertainment with all proceeds going to the organizations efforts, which to date, have helped nearly 100 men and women who've returned from war."These stories are particularly intense because they're the stories of both combat and the stories of coming home. So there is a huge release that happens when you tell the story and then when you see that story made into a song, because then it's like then it lives" said Smith. If you'd like to donate to Songwriting With Soldiers, visit their website here.
