Frost Possible Overnight, Advisories Issued

Blacksburg, VA - The season's first big frost is expected for part of the area overnight Sunday into early Monday morning.

The combination of clear skies, dry air, and calm winds will allow for temperatures to drop fast after sunset.

Many air temperatures will drop well down into the low to mid 30s.

While air temperatures may not hit freezing, plant leaves, grass blades, car hoods and decks can become colder than the air, allowing frost to form.

The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory from midnight through 9 a.m. Monday for the New River Valley and Alleghany Highlands.

Anyone wanting to protect their plants should cover them tonight or bring them inside.
