Friends Mourn Loss of Lynchburg Man Killed in Shooting

Lynchburg, VA - Just a block away from Dunbar Middle School a deadly shooting claimed the life of this Lynchburg man. Now police want you to be on the lookout for a person of interest. It all happened around 6 last night near 11th and Polk street. Police say 34-year-old Shawn Moss was shot multiple times. He was later pronounced dead at Lynchburg General. Today, friends placed candles and flowers at the scene in his memory. Candles burned in memory of 34-year-old Shawn Moss. "We started a candlelight vigil with a couple of his memories of pictures that we knew him best as" said friend Lanee Gray Lanee Gray says Shawn Moss became sort of a brother to her over the years. She says he would look out for the younger kids in the area and was known for his outgoing personality. "It's still unbelievable, not something we would want to picture" said Gray. Gray and Renisha Hubbard put together this photo collage shortly after hearing the news of Shawn Moss' death. They say they chose the pictures that best captured Moss -- in particular the picture with his son. "They were very close. They were together all summer and he even had my kids with him" said Gray. Gerard Hutcherson told ABC 13 shortly after the incident that the shooting has shaken up their neighborhood. "I'm surprised and appalled and sorry that something like that has happened here or anywhere" said Gerard Hutcherson. While police look for the person responsible, Shawn Moss' friends says they are supporting each other through this tough time. "We're talking to one another trying to keep each other's heads high" said Gray. Police have identified 24-year-old Dominique Moss as a person of interest in this case. They say he has a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation.
