Lynchburg, VA - Flu season is just around the corner and there is a chance for you to get a flu shot for free.
On Saturday, October 20, the Central Virginia Health District and the Lynchburg Fire Department are partnering together to give out 400 free flu shots. It's a special vaccination clinic at Lynchburg City Stadium from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Anyone living in the Central Virginia Health District (Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County and Lynchburg City) may receive a free flu shot. The shots will be given on a first come, first serve basis. It's going on rain or shine.
GLTC is even offering a free shuttle to and from the Plaza transfer station and the City Stadium to make sure you get there.
According to the Health Department, annual vaccinations are especially recommended for the following high-risk groups:
Persons at high risk for complications, including children ages six months to five years, pregnant women, people 50 years of age and older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, and people who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities.
People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications, including household contacts of persons at high risk, household contacts and caregivers of children less than six months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated), and health care workers.
The Health Department also advises people to watch for symptoms that could lead to having the flu including fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle aches, and extreme fatigue.
