Update: Five Injured in School Bus Accident

Update 11:50 a.m.:

Franklin Co., VA - School district officials say five people were hurt when a pickup truck ran into a school bus around 7 a.m. Friday.

It happened on 220 North just south of the town of Rocky Mount.

State Police say the pickup truck couldn't stop in time as the school bus was picking up a student.

The truck ended hitting the rear of the rear of the bus and debris from the wreck hit the student who was waiting to get on.

Three students, the bus driver and truck driver were taken to the hospital.

There's no word on their conditions.


Franklin Co., VA - State police say at least one student was injured when a pickup truck ran into a school bus.

Troopers say the bus had stopped to pick up a student on Route 220 North near Dudley's Truck stop Friday morning when the pickup hit it from behind.

There were 16 students on board at the time.

No word on the pickup driver's condition.

VDOT says the north left lane and right lane are closed and drivers are being diverted into one of the southbound lanes.
