Frankie Smith, Jr. Leads CVIGT After Day One

Forest - Former E.C. Glass golfer Frankie Smith, Junior has a two-shot lead after day one of the Central Virginia Invitational Golf Tournament.

91 golfers are playing in this year's event, they had to brave strong winds Friday afternoon in first-round action at London Downs Golf Course. Three-time defending champ Lee Fisher has some ground to make up on the leader after opening with a 79. Fisher is trying to become the first golfer to win four straight CVIGT men's titles. Fisher played with leader Frankie Smith, Junior who shot even par 72.
Four golfers are at 74, Brian Stanley along with his son Matthew, Eric Davenport and Scott Werthman. The group at 75 includes former champions Ryan Stinnett and Hunter Russell, along with Marty Chandler. Appomattox golf coach Doug Marshall leads the seniors division with a 72, one better than Bert Allen at 73. Frankie Smith, Sr. is three off the pace at 75.
