Lynchburg, VA - Here are some sobering numbers: one in every 330 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old and over 91,000 kids lose their life to the disease every year.
Yet less than 5% of federal funding is dedicated to childhood cancer according to Alex's Lemonade Stand.
Last week ABC 13 News sat down with a little girl who knows cancer all to well. Four-year-old Edie Gilger has been fighting it since she was six months old.
Thanks to a drug she gets through a clinical trial, she is cancer free right now.
But over the weekend, Edie and her family brought a national fundraiser to the Lynchburg Community Market called Alex's Lemonade Stand.
It was started over a decade ago by a little girl who was fighting cancer too.
All the money raised by lemonade stands like Edie's go to help fight childhood cancer.
Edie's stand raised $3,300 so far.
