Fincastle, VA - A former sheriff from our area has found himself on the other side of the law after a grand jury returned four felony indictments against him.
Reed Kelly was indicted August 1st following a State Police investigation.
Kelly retired as Botetourt County's Sheriff in 1999 but because of his standing in the community the case was deferred to State Police.
Franklin County's Commonwealth's Attorney, Tim Allen, was assigned as special prosecutor.
Kelly is charged with four felonies of obtaining money by false pretense.
Court records show the alleged crimes occurred in 2006, 2009 and twice in 2011 - during a time Kelly worked as a private investigator.
Kelly was arraigned Tuesday.
No date has been set for a preliminary hearing.
