Forest, VA - Timberlake Christian Schools in Forest just installed a 20 meter meteorological tower that measures wind speeds and directions at 66 feet.
Staff members from the Virginia Center for Wind Energy at James Madison University say data collected from the tower will be used in the classroom to understand wind patterns.
ABC 13 Meteorologist Sean Sublette was on hand to watch the installation.
"On a monthly basis we will synthesize the data and send it back to the school and they can be using it in the classroom and the students can even be doing that analysis on if it's enough wind to garner a wind turbine," said Remy Pangle, Associate Director for the VA Center for Wind Energy.
This is the first tower of its kind installed in Central Virginia.
The school will share the weather data collected with our ABC 13 Weather Team.
