Bedford Co., VA- Workers at a Forest business got to leave work a little early Friday afternoon after someone found a suspicious backpack. Workers at Mail America say they found a backpack and could not locate its owner, so they called 911 just to be safe.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Department responded around 4:15 p.m. and evacuated the building. They checked out the bag, found no threat, and then gave management the all clear.
"Unfortunately a bunch of excitement for nothing. A little loss of productivity and some inconvenience to some people here, but the good news is no harm, no foul hopefully," said Gary Armstrong, Senior VP of Operations at Mail America.
The plant's day-shift crew got out about 45 minutes early due to the scare. Their night-shift crew started on time, without any other incidents.
