Salem, VA - Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation are responding to flooded road conditions in the New River Valley and Hillsville area. Drivers are urged to use caution when driving this evening, particularly in Giles and Carroll counties, where heavy rains have washed out roads, caused mudslides and downed trees.
If a road is closed due to high water, motorists are reminded to never drive around barricades in place to block off roads. Flood waters will need to recede in some areas before roads can reopen or repairs can be made.
With road conditions constantly changing, citizens are reminded that VDOT provides the most up-to-date information available about flooded roads atwww.511Virginia.org. To access the list of flooded roads, look for the text views section of the site and search under road conditions.
