Flames Begin Fall Football Practice
Lynchburg - Head Coach Turner Gill and the Liberty Flames kicked off Fall practice Thursday morning. Redshirt junior quarterback Josh Woodrum out of Cave Spring is back to guide the LU offense. Star running back Des Rice is out for the season with a knee injury. He'll be missed, but junior D.J. Abner will step up and get his opportunity to shine in the backfield.
D.J. Abner, FLAMES JUNIOR RUNNING BACK, said "I'm faster, a little bit more powerful, and mentally I know the offense a whole lot better than my freshman year. And I consider that I'm ready, I'm blessed to be in this position."
Josh Woodrum, FLAMES R-JUNIOR QUARTERBACK, said "We have as good a passing game as anybody else in the country in my opinion. And I'd love to see us, you know, throw it out there a little bit more. You know it all comes down to the preparation for the team and the offensive coordinator and the plays he calls and we just have to go out there and execute it."
Turner Gill, THIRD-YEAR FLAMES HEAD COACH - "He improved on the deep ball last year and that's kind of what we focused on before last season. And we want to continue to have that happen, too."
Also, the Flames are grayshirting freshman B.J. Farrow out of L.C.A.. He is enrolled in school, but his athletic eligibility is delayed meaning he won't play for the Flames until the 2015 season.
