Flag Used in D-Day Nominated to Join Virginia's Top 10 Endangered Artifacts
Bedford, VA - The National D-Day Memorial Foundation wants you to vote for a 299th Combat Engineer Battalion Flag. The historic flag has been nominated to join Virginia's Top 10 Endangered Artifacts.
The flag was carried onto Utah Beach by members of Company B on June 6th, 1944 and features their insignia.
They came under direct fire and many were killed or wounded.
The flag is badly deteriorated around the edges and is encased to slow down any further deterioration.
If the flag gets the designation, it will help to attract donors and apply for conservation funding to repair it.
