First Responders Honored For Saving Two Lives

Roanoke Co., VA - Roanoke County Supervisors honored two volunteer EMTs and a beat officer today for helping save two lives during a September 2 apartment fire.

Lieutenant Ethan Dressler and EMT trainee and volunteer fire fighter, Hunter Mood, were first on the scene where smoke was coming from an apartment in the Villages at Garst Creek complex.

They broke into the apartment and as Dressler put out the fire Mood dragged a man to safety.

Dressler then got some help from police officer, Cara Jacobs, to pull a second man to safety.

"Saw the fire was contained to the stove and saw the two victims down. At that point we were like... we're going to go ahead and get them out. We're not going to wait around," said Dressler.

"Basically it's a quick glance at each other. A nod... and then we are both on the same page immediately," added Mood.

One supervisor commented it was about having the right people in the right place at the right time.
