First Day of Virginia's General Assembly
Richmond, VA - The General Assembly kicks off its session Wednesday.
Virginia's House of Delegates and Senate meet every year starting the second Wednesday in January.
In odd number years, like the one we're in now, legislators meet for 30 days. In even number years, they meet for 60 days. There's an option to extend the session every year but by no more than 30 more days.
The big focuses this year are education, transportation and whether legislators will lift the moratorium on uranium mining.
Governor Bob McDonnell's State of the Commonwealth address is Wednesday night at 7 p.m. You can watch it on WSET digital sub channel 13.3 or live streaming here.
