Roanoke, VA - Fire fighters are passing along an important safety reminder about your kids' Halloween costume.
The Roanoke Fire Department is urging parents to pay close attention to costumes and whether or not they are flammable.
Even if they aren't, fire officials stress to be careful around open flames used in this holiday like candles. They also suggest checking their costume to make sure it fits properly so they don't trip.
Another tip is to make sure your trick-or-treater can see well if they're going out in a mask.
"Look at what your kids are going to wear. Really have a family meeting. When they go out trick or treating set some rules: Make sure they aren't out trick or treating by themselves, going into houses of people they don't know and always check the candy," said Tiffany Bradbury, Fire Prevention Specialist.
