Fatal Car Crash in Alleghany County

Alleghany Co., VA- The Virginia State Police are currently are investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. on Route 220, two miles north of Route 640 in Alleghany County.

The investigation revealed that a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by 25-year-old John Steven Kaptis of Hot Springs was traveling northbound when it ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a rock wall before overturning.

Kaptis was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead a short time later at Bath County Community Hospital in Hot Springs.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
