Lynchburg Apparent Drowning Victim's Family Speaks Out

Lynchburg, VA - The family of 27 year old Holly McQuarry, a mother from Lynchburg, who apparently drowned in a pool at Lynchburg's Camp Kumbayah, is speaking out.

McQuarry's cousin says McQuarry leaves behind a four year old son. Her cousin said the family is shocked, and confused as to how or why this could have happened.

According to family, McQuarry was an experienced swimmer. They don't know what she was doing though at that Camp Kumbayah pool in the very early hours of Monday morning.

Lynchburg police say she was with two other individuals. Family was unaware of who those people are.

Just before 5 a.m., police were called to the camp by those individuals. When they arrived, McQuarry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the pool and the camp were both closed and that McQuarry and the two others were trespassing.

"Parents should not have any concern. This was very late in the evening or early in the morning when this incident took place, it did not involve any students or campers that were out there. These were three adults that were there during these hours" said Captain Ryan Zuidema of the Lynchburg Police Department.

No campers involved in the incident. Police say they don't believe foul play was involved in the apparent drowning.

McQuarry's body has been taken to the medical examiner; we will know more when they've released their findings.
