Family of Injured Danville Firefighter Praying For His Recovery
Danville, VA - A Danville firefighter is in serious condition after falling ten feet from scaffolding. Captain Barry Neal was off duty when he fell Friday working a different job.
Neal's family says he suffered several broken ribs, fragmented bones in his back, and a head injury.
Barry Neal, a Danville firefighter, had been off duty when he fell 10 feet from scaffolding at his other job.
"Going over there I found out it was my brother, Barry," Mike Neal said. "I just asked the good Lord to help me get the ambulance over there."
Being one of the first on the scene, Mike and his team stabilized Barry and drove him to Danville Regional Medical Center.
Later, Barry was transported to Roanoke, while his family of firefighters watched and prayed.
"When it is your own it makes it hard," Mike Neal said about his brother.
Firefighting runs in the family for Barry. Over a career lasting decades, he has worked his way up to Captain and fulfilled a dream he has had since childhood.
"It takes a special person with a special heart to want to do this," said Mike Neal.
Firefighters say while Barry recovers, his presence at the department will be missed.
"It's going to be a large void for Barry because he is an important part of the Danville Fire Department," Johnny Pyron said.
Meanwhile, family and friends will wait, pray, and hope for a full recovery.
"It's going to be tough for the department but we are expecting him back soon," said Pyron.
"He's in the good Lord's hands," Mike Neal said.
