Everything You Need to Know About the Virginia 10 Miler

Lynchburg, VA - The Genworth Virginia Ten Miler is this weekend, and organizers say this is the biggest turnout they've ever had. More than 4,200 people have registered in total for races both Friday and Saturday.

There are a lot of things like road closures, event times and locations that you need to know.

The event starts Friday, Sept. 28 with the Amazing Mile Children's Run downtown. You can get children's race information and a map of the three different races in this race guide on page 5.

The main event is Saturday morning with the big 4 and 10 mile races. Road closures will begin at 7:40 a.m. when crews shut down Langhorne Road. Get a complete list of road closures.

There is also a big sponsor village by the finish line at E.C. Glass High School where all the sponsors will be lined up. The "Almost Brothers Band" will be playing there on the main stage from 8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The village is free and open to the public.

You can see where the five other bands will be here.

Race Director Jeff Fedorko says there will be more than 3,500 runners out on Saturday, and they want those not taking part to cheer them on.

"This is a great day for Lynchburg to come out and support the community and those that are participating. We have six different live bands on the course. A real famous area to watch runners is here on Rivermont Ave near Magnolia Foods and the New Riverside Runners," he said.

Fedorko also says a good spot for spectators is at Randolph College where the 4 mile races finishes. Also, the 10 miler finish line at E.C. Glass High School is good. Finally, he says the turn from Rivermont Terrace unto Rivermont Avenue is becoming a good spot as well.
