Martinsville, VA - More and more students are taking advantage of one state agency offering chances for higher education.

Enrollment at the New College Institute of Martinsville went up 18% this year.

Students can earn degrees from colleges and universities around the state by taking these classes.

They have nearly 300 students this term. From high school dual enrollment to video conferencing, school officials say the programs are becoming more attractive.

They say the construction of new facilities and expanded academic options are helping.

"We do expect that as we add more programs and build our new building, and continue to add on to what we do, that our numbers will continue to grow. We are excited about the opportunities to come," said Dr. Leanna Blevins, associate director and chief academic officer of NCI.

Blevins says the flexibility of the programs is particularly helpful to people going back to school or living in rural areas.
