Lynchburg, VA- A crowd came out in downtown Lynchburg on Saturday to shop for pottery and have a good lunch.
The Academy of Fine Arts sponsored the Empty Bowls event to benefit the Daily Bread. Potters with the Academy donated the pieces of art. Folks paid $20 to pick a bowl and were then served lunch in that same bowl. Empty Bowls is a national event to benefit shelters and organizations who feed the hungry. The Academy of Fine Arts said they are happy to be able to give back to those in need in our area.
"We picked Daily Bread because it's downtown like we are and it's a nice association and we are hoping to raise lots of money today," said May Carter, the Pottery Studio Director.
Last year this event raised over $5,000. There's no final tally for this year's yet, but organizers said they did sell all of their bowls.
