Richmond, VA - Newly released emails show that Governor McDonnell attended an event to promote new products from a campaign donor despite concerns from top aides.
The emails show aides questioned McDonnell attending the 2011 luncheon to launch a dietary supplement made by the company Star Scientific.
They also show efforts by aides to play down the appearance.
Federal authorities are investigating the relationship between Star Scientific chief executive Jonnie Williams and the McDonnells.
Star has donated more than $100,000 to McDonnell's campaigns, and Williams paid $15,000 for catering at McDonnell's daughter's 2011 wedding.
McDonnell has denied any wrongdoing.
