Elementary School Gets Check for Collecting Box Tops

Lynchburg, VA - Sheffield Elementary in Lynchburg is one of eight schools in the nation to collect 10,000 Box Tops.

Monday all that hard work paid off when the school won a $1,000 check, presented by Apple Ford.

Sheffield just re-entered the General Mills sponsored program a little over a year ago. Parents then earned cash for the school by clipping coupons from participating products.

School officials say the $1,000 will go toward improvements in technology.

"Any way that we can find to generate non-budgetary income for our school is just a plus. That's all there is to it. We can do things with that money that we really need to do," said Leonard Brownfield, the Box Tops coordinator at the school.

Sheffield is also one of several schools in the run for a $20,000. That winner will be announced in the next few weeks.
