Elementary Kids Celebrate 'Read Across America' Day

Lynchburg, VA - On Dr. Seuss's birthday on Friday, students celebrated across the country by putting their nose in a book. Locally, kids at Paul Munro Elementary in Lynchburg took part in the Read Across America Day event.

Students there got to pick out books or magazines of their choice. They even got to wear their pajamas as they read some Dr. Seuss classics!

School librarians say days like this teach kids how fun reading can be.

"And they all got into it, and they were all loving it so much so that at the end of it they didn't want to stop, they were like 'oh can we do it again?' And they definitely want to do it again next year," said Paul Munro Librarian Ruth Anne McCarthy.

Over at Bedford Hills Elementary, the principal read Cat in the Hat to the kids. And Linkhorne Middle and Sheffield Elementary Schools had their own reading events as well.
