Golf Tournament Aims to Bring Money to Classroom
Danville, VA-- More than 100 golfers came out to the Goodyear Golf Course in Danville Friday to put money back in our schools.
Friday was the Ed Steffey Memorial Education Open Golf Tournament. It helps raise money for schools in the area.
The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce put on the event. They've raised more than a quarter of a million dollars in the past 20 years and hope to raise about $15,000 this year.
"100 percent of it goes into classroom projects and it's just way that we can help support innovative and creative projects that our teachers want to do, but they don't have the funding to do,"said Laurie Moran, President of Danville/ Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce.
The tournament is in memory of Ed Steffey who was the plant manager of Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Danville. Laurie Moran says Steffey saw the need for more money for education, so they named the event after him when he passed away.
