RADFORD, Va. - Matt McAden's tally in the 61st minute lifted E.C. Glass over Briar Woods, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Group AA Boy's Soccer Championship Saturday afternoon at Patrick D. Cupp Stadium on the campus of Radford University as part of the 2013 VHSL Spring Jubilee.
McAden ran down a through ball from Jack Valentine and ripped the game-winner past the Falcons' Arni Gunnarsson to provide the difference.
The Hilltoppers advance to Sunday's championship match which will be contested at 10 a.m. at Patrick D. Cupp Stadium at Radford against Blacksburg which beat Tuscarora 4-0.
After a year absence from the Group AA Boy's Soccer championship match, Blacksburg made an emphatic statement behind a 4-0 semifinal win over Tuscarora Saturday afternoon at Patrick D. Cupp Stadium as part of the 2013 VHSL Spring Jubilee.
After the two sides battled to a scoreless draw in the first half, Bradford Mills broke through for the Bruins in the 42nd minute. Mitchell Williams, who assisted on the first goal, Geinda Smith and Mills tacked on insurance goals later on for Blacksburg.
Sunday's championship match against E.C. Glass marks Blacksburg's 18th trip to the final, having captured the state crown 11 times. The battle against the Region III and Region IV champions is slated for 10 a.m. at Radford University's Patrick D. Cupp Stadium.
