E.C. Glass Beats Heritage to Clinch Share of Seminole
LYNCHBURG - Karl Overstreet changed the complexion of the game and led E.C. Glass to a 56-49 win over crosstown rival Heritage Tuesday night.
The win secures at least a share of the Seminole District regular season title.
Heritage hosts Rustburg on Thursday. If Heritage defeats the Red Devils, Heritage and E.C. Glass will be named co-champions of the district and both will advance to regional play.
The district's top seed will be determined in the Seminole District Tournament next week. The team that advances further will earn the district's top seed. If both teams are eliminated in the same round, Heritage will earn the top seed based on a tie-breaker (Heritage beat Halifax County and E.C. Glass lost to Halifax County).
After a sloppy first half by both teams, the Hilltoppers (15-7, 11-1) held a slim 25-23 lead at halftime but Overstreet scored a majority of his points, rebounds, and blocks in the second half. The 6'9" senior finished with 9 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Glass was able to get the victory despite shooting 12 of 27 from the free throw line. Heritage (16-5, 10-1) was 7 of 11.
Shawn Brown led Glass with 13 points. Fellow junior Jermaine Mayo delivered momentum-changing shots and finished with 12 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals.
William McCoy led the Pioneers with 15 points. Dante Jefferson added 10 rebounds.
