Salem - ODAC women's basketball coaches have tabbed Eastern Mennonite as the preseason favorite to win the league.
The Royals edged Guilford for the top spot. Lynchburg, returning all five starters from last year's 18-and-10 season, is picked third followed by Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon.
Bridgewater heads the second five, Roanoke is seventh with area teams Randolph, Washington & Lee and Hollins rounding out the 12-team poll.
Abby Pyzik, 4TH-YEAR LYNCHBURG COACH, said "We have all of our starters returning, we have nine returners and we have five newcomers. So we're really excited, it's kind of funny the first couple of days of practice I've been so used to really shaping our freshmen and pushing them. I sat back for a second and realized wow, we actually have some experience."
Allison Nichols, 4TH-YEAR RANDOLPH COACH, said "We've got some very athletic guards and we've got some shooters as well, so we're going to play very fast-paced. I think we're going to score the ball at a much higher rate than we have in the past. Our past few years we've really struggled to score."Susan Dunagan, 33RD-YEAR ROANOKE COACH - "We've got good shooters, but we've got to find that consistency from the outside. We have a lot of ability, driving ability on our team so we're hoping to be able to be a little faster, quicker, a little up-tempo and give some people fits."
