Danville, VA - Officials from the Danville Regional Medical Center announced Wednesday the opening of a new 24/7 emergency department.
CEO Eric Deaton says it will be a free standing emergency department that will take some pressure off the hospital's ER.
"We've seen an increase in emergency department visits over the last three years so as it continues to grow, there is more of a need," said Deaton. "We have more access for patients so they are seen faster."
The new ER will be open 24 hours a day and will have about 20 beds. The project will also invest $6 million in the community and create 20 new jobs.
"Another example of how our city is moving forward and we are very pleased that this hospital is leading the way," says Sherman Saunders, the mayor.
It will be located on Executive Park Drive where the current Danville Orthopedic Clinic building is.
Construction is to begin mid-2013 and will take about nine months to complete.
